HBO’s, “A Game of Thrones” is based on extremely popular series of novels by George RR Martin. These novels are fantasy but do not let that dissuade you from watching the series. This is not the fantasy of J.R.R. Tolkien. It is not an overblown story with all sorts of magic and may.
Again with thrones is nothing more than a very very realistic world set in a fantasy realm. There is some magic but is EXTREMELY low key. It is more like having a story that is set in a medieval yet made up world.
The basic plot of the series of simple yet very complex. It tells the story of one family, scoins of a powerful house as long removed itself from the “politics” and dirty dealing of court life. Because of the series of events this family gets thrust into the middle of this court life they have so far avoided and therefore into the middle of a Machiavellian world backstabbing, treachery double crosses and death.
The stories perfect for HBO series because it really revolves around the characters and characterization. That is not to say there’s not a lot of action. There is but you’re going to find yourself more drawn to the into play of characters in the cold cruel hand of the writer George R Martin. If you read the books you know that the writer is not scared of killing off characters. Unlike many other boilerplate fiction these days literally any character can be killed at any time. This creates a very tense an interesting view of the world. Because whatever else it is this world is never ever predictable.
In the land of Westeros the bad guys sometimes do good things and the good guys often do some bad things. It is really true to life, even though it is based on fantasy realm and story.
anyone who’s read the books and seen the previews for this series is excited. The characters they get to play the parts of all the major and minor characters are nearly pitch perfect from the book. They look, act and set the right tone. often books to movies studios will get characters to fit a big-name star. In the case of HBO and HBO movies for the most part they never do this. They find highly quality second-tier sometimes even third tier actors that are just not gotten their chance at huge fame and put them to key roles where they shine. A perfect example of this is Sean Bean, of the major characters in the story. Sean is a great actor with a large following but not quite in “a-lister” even though his acting talent is up to that level. and he fits the character so well one would think it was actually written for him. The same thing goes for the casting of Peter Dinklage in another of the major roles. Way before this was even a real option for HBO to make a series out of these books Peter Dinklage it was the fan favorite and really only choice to fill the role that he is now filling.
Gll of this shows great promise and leads to much excitement with the coming release of the new HBO series, ‘A Game of Thrones”. if you have HBO make sure to check it out if you don’t you may want to think about getting HBO for the next few months, particularly if you do like really you do like realism and gritty fantasy.
